Hanbury President Keith Storms has been honored with the AIA Blue Ridge Distinguished Achievement Award, recognizing a commitment to design excellence beyond the scope of professional practice.
Throughout his career, Keith has focused on helping colleges and universities translate long-term institutional goals into resilient campus plans. Since joining Hanbury in 1990, he has worked on more than 110 projects across more than 50 college and university campuses. His long relationship with Virginia Tech includes leading Hanbury's 2006 Campus Master Plan and helping steward some 30 building projects across campus.
His work in campus resilience grew through research with Virginia Tech's Global Forum for Urban and Regional Resilience, where he helped develop a framework for understanding the interconnected systems shared by universities and their host communities. The research has since informed Hanbury's work with university clients, integrating resilience more directly into institutional planning.
Keith's commitment to the profession also includes teaching, mentorship, and sustained engagement with Virginia Tech's College of Architecture, Arts, and Design. He currently serves as Chair of the Dean's Advisory Board for the College and as President of Hanbury.
